The Blocking Behavior
“The junta has imposed fresh internet restrictions since May 31, notably
banning the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPN) that will affect the country's 20 million social
media users. While VPNs that were widely used in the country have been shut down, reports note that
a clampdown on such proxy networks will not be completely possible in the short term; less popular
VPNs are still available to users.” - CRISIS24
After hosting “protonvpn.vercel.app” for
more than a year, and the activation of Chinese internet restrictions on May 31 2024, it has come to
notice that the original subdomain is inaccessible from Myanmar's Internet Service Providers' IP
addresses (after 40 days since activation). Meaning that Chinese internet blocking system use
character blocking, refreshing the list of blocked websites.
Thus, the subdomain “protonvpn.vercel.app” has come to the end of service. This site is now
rename to IIAP - Independent Internet Access Provider and changed the subdomain to
<iiap.vercel.app>.
ProtonVPN (or) unauthorized group of people might have taken up the work. The subdomain is
online (noticed: 15 Jan, 2025), with the same UI as the official ProtonVPN website. Although it doesn't
provide downloadable packages like IIAP, its links direct to the official ProtonVPN service. IIAP is
not responsible for any personal information leakage from that site. I (or) We are not
related to that website and do not host that subdomain
anymore.
